People cannot speak or write freely
and democracy has gone into exile in Bangladesh, the ruling patner Hussain
Muhammad Ershad said this while he was addressing a party meeting at Munshiganj
on Saturday.
Ershad added
rampant corruption in the country is spreading, it requires bribe amounting to
Tk 1 million to become a policeman and Tk 0.5 million for being a schoolteacher.
Ershad, who is a special emissary to
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, claimed that only deserving candidates were
recruited when he ruled the country.“In our nine-year tenure, we take into
consideration the jobseekers’ quality instead of looking at the money (to be
offered as bribe). No incident of killing or abduction had been recorded in our
time,” he said.
Highlighting the current state of the country, Ershad said, “When we were in power, we didn't interfere with the judiciary.”
Ershad said he wants to see people living in peace and rule of law established in the country.
